"I have seen a lot, but I have reflected even more: the world is revealing itself more and more, and even what I have known for some time, only now becomes truly mine."

J.W. Goethe – Viaggio in Italia

Paestum Archaeological Park

Paestum is a city of Magna Graecia and its Archaeological Park is now a heritage ofUNESCO. Several writers and poets cited it, while ignoring its exact location, placing it in Agropoli or even in Policastro: it was mostly quotations from Virgil, Ovid and Propertius. It soon became an obligatory stop on the Grand Tour and Goehte himself mentions the city of Paestum in his works.

Charterhouse of San Lorenzo in Padula

The Certosa di San Lorenzo is another World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO. It is also known as the Certosa di Padula and is certainly one of the most beautiful places in the province of Salerno. The architectural style is almost mainly Baroque and, thanks to its vast extension (51,500 m²), it is second only to the Chartreuse of Grenoble in France. The Certosa is the main destination of religious tourism in Campania, as well as being among the most evocative monuments of the Italian artistic heritage.

Cascate dei capelli di Venere

Among the many beauties of nature that Cilento offers, we must include the cascades of the Capelli di Venere of Casaletto Spartano. The Hair of Venus is a spectacle of nature that has seen the union of 3 elements, the water of Bussentino, the Maidenhair plant and the rock. The cascade of the waters from Capelli has created natural pools in the river bed where it is also possible to swim.

Castelcivita caves

At the gates of the Cilento National Park, in the province of Salerno, the Castelcivita Caves are one of the largest speleological complexes in southern Italy. The system of underground cavities opens immediately showing a suggestive scenario of tunnels, large spaces and bottlenecks dug by the millenary action of karst erosion. The choice between the different routes, depending on the level of difficulty, makes the visit experience accessible to all.

Licosa lighthouse

The island of Licosa and its lighthouse are one of the wonders of Cilento. A small strip of land a few meters from the promontory which, in addition to showing the charm of nature, hosts historical testimonies. The island is home to a signaling lighthouse but also archaeological evidence including part of a partially submerged pier and the remains of a Roman villa.

Castellabate

The historic center of the village is included in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park and is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The town preserves ancient traditions and is an ideal place for lovers of art and nature. Thanks to the success of the films Benvenuti al Sud and Benvenuti al Nord, the small town of Salerno is now known nationally and internationally. The medieval village is characterized by arches, steps and gray stone houses, with sudden facing where you can enjoy breathtaking views.

These are just some of the places to visit near Villa Gioia Resort but we assure you that Cilento is full of enchanting places,

you just need to know how to look where the eye normally does not fall ... Good research!
